Day 5 2012
The new menu hit for the day is from a can on top of plain rice. No, really. I came across this little gem at my local bent and dent grocery store, so I probably spent all of 50 cents on this can of "southwestern bean salad" (black beans, bell peppers, corn, kidney beans, vinegar, garlic, chili powder, tomato paste, etc.) which will probably make three servings on 25 cents worth of rice! Yum. As far as the spiritual side of today, I again didn't get to spend all the time I would like in quiet, devotional time, but I sure am grateful for the opportunity to homeschool my kids. My fifth grader and I are studying the revolutionary war and George Washington. Now that's some quality leadership! I am excited to possibly put together a booklet for my church to use next Sunday when we do a churchwide week of prayer and fasting. I am mostly borrowing the material from another church's booklet from last year, but still, I am looking forward to the challenge of deciding what to use. They did 21 days, so I have to cut a third of it. To wrap up, I am eating from a 50 cent container of organic blackberries and already had celery in black olive hummus. The aforementioned loss of hot tea and chocolate, as well as my affinity for cheese, still makes this Daniel Fast something of a sacrifice. But really, to call it a true sacrifice? I am eating like Eve in paradise!
